Raj Mathur.

Consultant Gynaecologist

I am the Clinical Lead for Reproductive Medicine here at St Mary’s Hospital. I have been a consultant since 2003, following training in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery in Cambridge. I set up an NHS IVF unit in Cambridge before moving here to Manchester. My special interests are in ovarian stimulation for IVF and prevention of OHSS.

Consultant Gynaecologist

I am a gynaecologist specialising in infertility and assisted conception, and an accredited sub-specialist in reproductive medicine. I qualified in Manchester in 1986.

I completed my MD in 1994, researching changes to ovarian endocrinology as women age and their response to hormonal manipulation.

I also have an interest in treating patients for fertility preservation.

Kingshuk Majumder.

Consultant in Reproductive Medicine

I specialise in minimal access surgery, Endometriosis and Reproductive Medicine.

I trained at JIPMER Hospital in India and qualified as a doctor in 1993. I trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in India between 1993 and 1999 and in the UK between 2001 and 2008. I was awarded my MRCOG in 2001.

I was appointed as a consultant at Saint Mary’s Hospital in 2011.

Consultant Gynaecologist

I specialise in reproductive medicine and surgery, particularly endometriosis and advanced laparoscopic surgery.

I underwent specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology acquiring my MRCOG in 1995. I had further specialist training in Reproductive Medicine, where I obtained an MD for research into the structure and ultra-function of the endometrium.

I am a member of Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and an accredited subspecialist in reproductive medicine and surgery.

Muhammad Ahsan Akhtar

Muhammad Ahsan Akhtar.

Consultant Gynaecologist and Andrologist

I am a gynaecologist and an accredited sub-specialist in reproductive medicine. I acquired MRCOG in 2010.

I completed my MD in 2015 from University of Warwick, researching role of peri-implantation heparin in assisted reproduction.

My special interests are male fertility (Andrology) and 3-D gynae scanning service.

I am Director of Laboratory Services and have worked at Saint Mary’s for over 25 years. I am also the person responsible to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.

I am the Person Responsible to the HFEA for licences in embryo research and embryonic stem cells, Co-Director of the NW Embryonic Stem Cell Centre, a member of the HFEA’s Scientific and Clinical Advances Advisory Committee, and an advisor to the MHRA on IVF.

I qualified as a registered general nurse in 1998 from Sheffield University and I have spent all of my career at Saint Mary’s Hospital. I have a real passion for women’s health and I feel honoured to be involved in helping people fulfil their dreams. There is no greater gift than life itself.

Diane Critchlow.

Principal Embryologist

I have worked as a Clinical Embryologist since 1986, after graduating from the University of Sheffield. I completed my PhD at the University of Manchester. I am Principal Embryologist and Organiser of the UK NEQAS Schemes for Reproductive Science and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University. I have a keen interest in embryo assessment using time-lapse imaging techniques.

Principal Embryologist

I am one of the Principal Embryologists at St Mary’s where I have worked since 1998 and also the Laboratory Lead for the Surgical Sperm Retrieval service.  I am also involved in training and assessment of embryologists across the UK and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Manchester University. I have a BSc in Biomedical Science and a MSc.  I am a Diplomate of the Royal College of Pathologists.

Ann Curley.


I have worked as an infertility counsellor at St Mary’s for over 10 years. I qualified as an integrative counsellor with the Advanced Diploma at Manchester University in 2000 and regularly attend and deliver training to meet professional standards. I am an accredited counsellor with BACP and BICA.

I joined St Mary’s as a student in 2006 whilst studying for my Diploma in Counselling at Salford University and have been employed as an infertility counsellor since 2008. My core model of training was Personal Centred Therapy. I am a member of BACP and accredited by BICA
